Check out the Gallery for photos of the recent 5th Grade Zoo Adventure for Fire Prevention Week on September 30th, 2004! SAR DAY 2004 SAR DAY 2004 was a great success on April 10, 2004. Thanks to everyone who participated, whether you were a guest or a team member! The team met many dogs and their handlers who just wanted to see what SAR was about or were interested in joining our team. We had a total of 65 dogs participate in the evaluation stations which included Obedience, Agility, Scent Work, Directional Control and Bark Alerts. We received some very positive media coverage and plan to host the event next year, but only bigger and better! There were many items we left out this year due to space constraints. We were unable to demonstrate rappelling with the dogs due to the weather and building layout, plus we were busy all day interacting with the dogs! (This will definitely be on the agenda next year!) Thanks to all of the area businesses that donated treats, toys, supplies or other items and to the Wichita Eagle, KFDI, KWCH 12, and Fox News at Nine for promoting our event and generating more interest. We look forward to working with everyone again for the next SAR DAY Adventure! BIGGER AND BETTER! Photos located in the gallery. *PAST EVENTS! (2003)* The first week of October SCEMK9 was invited to give a presentation and demonstration to the Kansas Park Law Enforcement Association's training in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks in Cheney, Ks. 20-30 Law Enforcement Officers were in attendance from various parts of the state. SCEMK9 attended the all-day training and gave a 2-hour presentation. 6 handlers and their dogs attended. We received some gracious comments and a great lunch! We look forward to working with these two departments in the future! Sorry, we do not have photos to post of this event. JOINT TRAINING WITH THE WPD MOUNTED PATROL This was a great time, a big thank you to Sergeant Brian Sigman for setting the training up. We look forward to more training sessions in the fall of 2004 (scheduling now!) The dogs ignored the horses completely during the searches and each found their victims! 5 dogs and handlers attended, pictured above. Thanks to Barry Guinn for the photo.
