Special Events, Demonstrations, and Seminars

This page will keep you informed of where to find us at our events! SCEM K-9 Team is available for a very limited number of special events for the Public due to our work and training schedules. Please allow us at least 3 weeks advance notice to see if we are available. Drop an email request or call (316) 942-9923 and leave a clearly stated message. We can not be responsible for misdirected phone calls and wrong numbers (has happened). We can not honor all requests. We give demonstrations for area Public Service Agencies whenever needed. Any event may be cancelled due to an active mission/weather without notice to the requesting party. Click here to visit our NEWS page, which features recent published articles or news releases.

SAR DAY 2004

SAR DAY 2004 was a great success on April 10, 2004. Thanks to everyone who participated, whether you were a guest or a team member! The team met many dogs and their handlers who just wanted to see what SAR was about or were interested in joining our team. We had a total of 65 dogs participate in the evaluation stations which included Obedience, Agility, Scent Work, Directional Control and Bark Alerts. We received some very positive media coverage and plan to host the event next year, but only bigger and better! There were many items we left out this year due to space constraints. We were unable to demonstrate rappelling with the dogs due to the weather and building layout, plus we were busy all day interacting with the dogs! (This will definitely be on the agenda next year!) Look here for this link to be activated when pictures are able to be posted! Thanks to all of the area businesses that donated treats, toys, supplies or other items and to the Wichita Eagle, KFDI, KWCH 12, and Fox News at Nine for promoting our event and generating more interest. We look forward to working with everyone again next year for SAR DAY 2005! BIGGER AND BETTER!

*PAST EVENTS! (2003)*

The first week of October SCEMK9 was invited to give a presentation and demonstration to the Kansas Park Law Enforcement Association's training in conjunction with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks in Cheney, Ks. 20-30 Law Enforcement Officers were in attendance from various parts of the state. SCEMK9 attended the all-day training and gave a 2-hour presentation. 6 handlers and their dogs attended. We received some gracious comments and a great lunch! We look forward to working with these two departments in the future! Sorry, we do not have photos to post of this event.

JOINT TRAINING WITH THE WPD MOUNTED PATROL

This was a great time, a big thank you to Sergeant Brian Sigman for setting the training up. We look forward to more training sessions in the fall of 2004 (scheduling now!) The dogs were introduced to the horses and short searches were completed with the officers on horseback flanking for us. The dogs ignored the horses completely during the searches and each found their victims! 5 dogs and handlers attended, pictured above. Thanks to Barry Guinn for the photo. Look for more photos in the GALLERY just posted !!!

SCEMK9 attended the Kansas Emergency Management Association's (KEMA) State Conference last Fall and presented a Power Point Presentation and K-9 demonstrations. You may now view the Power Point Presentation at www.kema.org.  Thanks to all the handlers that attended!

Check out our GALLERY PAGE for photos of recent training sessions including the Zoo Tour by the Curator of Animal Behavior and Research, Dr. Emily Weiss.
