Donating a Dog to SCEMK9 SCEMK9 has received several requests about how someone can donate a dog to us. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate this request 99% of the time. First, all of our handlers own and train their own dogs. We do not accept dogs in the program to train and then give them back to the original handler or owner. If a handler does not have a dog at the time, the info is passed along to the individual and it is up to the handler to decide whether the dog in question is the right dog for them. If it is not, we refer potential donators to local breed rescue groups or the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. This team trains to the standards SCEMK9 is currently training for (FEMA) and are very particular about what type of animal they are looking for.
If a person would like their dog trained in SAR, we recommend they check out our FAQ page and about Joining SCEMK9. They are welcome to apply and join our team and will subsequently be trained on how to train their own dog. We do not train your dog for you. We are too busy getting our own dogs ready for certification and deployment.
